Differences between Pontia daplidice and Pontia edusa

Hi everyone,

I just read om www.pieris.ch that Pontia daplidice is not only restricted to the western part of Europe
and North Africa, but that it also flies in Egypt and the Levant (ssp. laenas). Are there any morphological
characteristics in the adult that can be used to distinguish it from Pontia edusa?

Hello Klaas,

Unfortunately the differences between those two species are very tight and the only best way is thru DNA analysis. Some paper will be hopefully published soon that will show you Pontia edusa being really an isolate from the Pontic/Balkan complex.
