Beetle from Italia (near Merano)

Hello all,

I made a photo in my holliday of a really big beetle. He was about 5 cm long.

I hope anybody knows the name.

Hi,

it's a female of genus Lucanus. Possibly Lucanus cervus, but I can't differentiate the females of Lucanus cervus and Lucanus tetraodon, which also occurs in Italy.

Hi,

Thanks for all your help.
Klaas, I think Lucanus tetraodon is the correct species.

It should be Lucanus cervus cervus, L.tetraodon is smaller and their antennas have more "teeth".
