Hello everybody who reads this
After some searching on the internet and books, I tried to figure out if there is an way to feed caterpillars with artificial foods, like in the way you can do this for silkworms (Bombyx mori).
Apparently a second species of moth can also be reared on a different artificial food, that been the Tabaco hornworm (Manduca sexta).
What I noticed is that for the silkworms it said they use dried mulberry leaves for this kind of food.
While for the hornworm they speak of no such thing as dried leaves in the chow (the artificial food).
It is very hard to find the ingredients of this food. Although with some searching you can find some for the silkworms. But it usually just contains water, dried mulberry leaves and some powder made of corn. I find it a bit difficult to believe that this is it.
I did found a recipe witch was made out of white beans, agar agar, water and more ingredient’s (I add it as a picture)
My biggest question is now, does anyone have experience with artificial feeds? Recipe’s?
And so yes, for witch species??
Friendly regards Ewout!
