Hi guys,
I was reading a Pittaway's Book about hawkmoths, and i got to thinking about why they eat principally toxic solanaceae in wild while in captivity they accept privet and ash.
Do they use plant's toxins ? Like in Stramonium or Potato.
I think that they prefer solanaceae beacuse they can hold back in their body the plant's toxins, so, caterpillars feeded with Potato or Stramonium are less vulnerable than that ones feeded on privet or ash.
What do you think?
