Species accepted as food by many moths are: Ligustrum ovalifolium, Nerium oleander, Ailanthus altissima, Robinia pseudoacacia, Syringa vulgaris, Prunus domestica and Liquidambar styraciflua

Ailanthus and Ricinus are two favourable foodplants for Attacus. Samia are doing better on Ricinus than Attacus. The reasons why both are commonly not used are: not available in winter when most of the rearings of SE Asian species take place, Ricinus is poisonous, and Ailanthus usually difficult to get. Ailanthus grows best in sandy areas with warmer temperature (Mediterranean). Therefore Ailanthus is difficult to grow in coastal northern Germany. You will have Ligustrum and Laurocerasus all the year and both are accepted by many species of Attacus.

Hi Ulrich, In my city(Valencia) unfortunately for the environment we have many fields invaded by A.altissima and R.communis. In addition, the fall of Ailanthus leaves coincides with the re-growth of Ricinus, that's why they are ideal nutritional plants 
Sorry to write you in English and not in German and excuse me for deviating from the subject. Do you know if A.atlas accepts Ailanthus altissima and Ricinus communis well as food?
