Hey there,
Just go to google, and type pupae sexin.
There is a PDF file on the internet, take that one, it isn't a hemaris specie, but they have the similair sexual looking.
good luck!

What you can also do:
Bring the egg indoor, grow it untill 3rd instar.
Than put it o your dill, and make a sleeve on it, that will have the same conditions as outside, but the parasiters cannot get in.
goodluck

Its a noticudae, feed him the clematitis, but also grass, and evry ther small plant may be eaten.
This might be a HUISMOEDER, its the dutch name, for the ones who are not dutch.\
also bramble is a favorite.

Klaas,
I had it with the dubernardi's..
It might be the humidity, so they can't get out of their skins.regards

Hi wessel,
Argrema eats Eucalyptus , not only gunni.
But also Rhus, a very common plant at the garden centers of holland.
But just feed eucalyptus, it will do fine

The caterpillars do not grow very fast, I would say 8 weeks at room temp.
The moth only 10 days.

Hello,
I can tell you that you have a nice grown place, which birds fly in it?
I guess you should try some Dryas julia, or other Heliconidae..
The larva eat passiflora, and will do perfect with your conditions.
Also, you could get a Citrus plant, or Ruta graveolens, than you could try some papilio ssp's.
But also some native species are fun to have.. Like nymphalis io, but i strongly recommend you the dryas julia!
I don't know, but i guess you should contact Jkasi, he had them for sale last time.

Henri,
you should keep them in the same temp as you found them.
So just keep them outside, they will wait till next winter, and hatch next spring.

Hey Brunschi!
I have got 4 pupae of this specie too, i just took them out of the refridgerator!
I actually had the same questions as you. How did you make them mate?

Ich habe meine l2 raupchen im eine sleeve in meiner apfelbaum sitzen. -
Where you let them fly in?

I had this specie too.
What i found, was a close position of male and female in the mourning, their mating time is around 4-6 hours in the mourning.
When a female lays more than 20 eggs in 1 night, you can say they are fertilized ( most of the time)
When females are not fertilized, they will lay up to 10-15 eggs in a night, and will be calling all the time!
This is not the most easy specie to mate, but just be lucky!
good luck!

Always good to speak persons who have the same 'butterfly species' hobby as you:)
If you want, i can send some Gomphocarpus seeds to you, have got enought here, planning for danaus this year!
I want to try Rumanzovia, Bianor, Polyxenes and Lowii this year, and some Graphium Dosom, if i can get some of those.
The pupation, if it want on in the greenhouse was definately bacuase of the cold.
You should get larva above 4th instar inside, and get them there actual conditions.
I had a couple of monarchs last year, but they did not lay anye ggs at all, and they were mating like every day.
So yeah, maybe we could exchange some stuff, later this year!

Ah, that's nice..
Uhm, last year i started with papilio polytes, the night temperature was 6 degrees, at lowest.
But, larva are better be kept higher, butterflies do well at 6 degrees at night, but just need a higher temp duren the light hours.
Larva will also grow to slow, andd that could even take 2 or 3 months/
So, just buy a min/max temperature meter, and when the average temp is above 8 it is ok, but not many lower.
So deptpoint 6, average 8 degrees.
What do you want to breed?
