In Palawan Island (Filipinas), one can watch the males of Trogonoptera trojana flying and mud-puddling on the beach each morning between 8 and 8.30 AM (when low tide). They don't fear to go very close to the first little waves. It was in August. Females are less common and don't fly to the beach. They are to be encountered in village gardens or in the forest. It's strictly forbidden to collect this lep. in Palawan : however you can buy many spread samples in the Puerto Princessa Airport ! Alike other places in the world, the interdiction is enforced only against foreign entomologists but not at all against local traders and souvenirs dealers. Let go to visit airports shops in Brazil !
So, don't walk on the beach with a butterfly net if you prefer avoid trouble. Just wear a hat ...
