Obviously, I'm speaking from my experience in Belgium where my aviary is only usable for 4-5 months a year. Probably one or two months longer in your region, but I think that with average maximum temperatures of 12° in winter, it seems difficult to continue breeding tropical species that have continuous generations.

I think the ideal would be to replace the green tarpaulin with mosquito netting (fiberglass), the upper part or the whole thing. Better sunshine, maximum ventilation, rain, watering (butterflies and caterpillars appreciate gentle watering during hot days!) Personally, I have a 9 m² garden arbor, 5 sides in mosquito netting. Most Papilionidae, Heliconiinae mate and lay eggs there

About the laying of Agrius convolvuli
Hello,
I have tried several times to obtain eggs of this sphinx from females captured at the end of August, September in Belgium, without success. I suppose that these are specimens that will migrate to the south. Is it possible that these specimens (or their eggs) only become fertile once they arrive at their destination?
Has anyone already obtained eggs +/- under the same latitude or further north at the end of summer?

Personally, I use this system for the wintering of argynninae, melitaeinae, satyrinae. A terracotta pot, two metal wires, a panty. The nourishing plant is transplanted in with a thin layer of sand on the surface. I find +/- 80 90% of young caterpillars in the spring. The pot is placed outdoors on a window shelf (south side).
