    wow, interesting information!
I have googled parthenogenesis and attacus atlas and found different reactions. Most say that it is possible and that it will give male offspring.
But since you are experienced with this I will follow your answers.

    Pity for all those eggs.

    thank you Moe and Julien

    Hi there,

I read somewhere that when a female attacus doesn't mate with a male, she will still lay eggs, but the outcome will always be male butterflies.
Is that correct? (sorry if this is really a stupid question)

I have now for 2 weeks 2 female attacus sitting still, not doing anything, they do not fly.
I was even worried whether they were still alive, But they are alive and laying lots of eggs.

By the way, do they fall down when they die or will the sticky paws prevent that?

    Thankx
    Margareth

thank you all for your information.
I found it difficult to see the difference though between a male/female butterly. I have now two and one is really big (25 cm) with a huge body, so that with no doubt is a female. and the other one is a lot smaller (20cm) with somehat sharper wings. I didn't see very much difference between their antenaes. but since this smaller one laid eggs just this morning, it's clear

the difference betwee the pupae and that I have to take them out of the cocoon is one step to far for me just jet. I had to take one out because he got stuck in his cocon and brrr, that was one experience enough for me as for taking butterflies out.

but the pictures are very helpful, great!!!

I hope that it's ok to ask so many questions. I browse the forum, but it's not easy for me reading the german language.

    regards

My attacus atlas is trying to come out of the cocon since 9 oclock this morning. it's now 12 hours later and he still didn't succeed. I can see him through a gap and he's wriggling a lot, but no succes.
Is this normal? should I help him?

there are 2 others that came out already, but their wings did not develop completely. It looks like they didn't 'pump' them up completely.
Was there anything I could have done to prevent that?

    Aahh Karola & Frank,
thank you for the additional information. will visit the nursery tomorrow to see if they sell this plant, because as far as I can see they are not eating the wisteria or trifolium.
at first I thought one was starting to eat from the wisteria but now they are cruising the environment again.
    hope they survive.

    grtz

    Dear Rudi,
thank you for the suggestion, I am going to try the wisteria and trifolium. i can't find the dutch word for Cana and don't know the plant. can't find it on the internet either.
but hopefully the first two will work.
    i will keep you informed

    thx

    Dear Moe,
the picture was taken this morning.
I got the eggs from a friend who collected them from a man who works in an exhibitioncentre. she forgot what the name was
She knows I am very interested in butterflies and gave them to me.
I got them saturday and immediately put them in glass box with all kinds of 'leaves.
yesterday, sunday, three emerged, but they are not eating.
walking a lot but not eating anything.
I feel a little bit sorry for the little ones but don't know what to do now.

    regards
