I know there have already been several posts about this, but I’m still missing a good summary.
Which host plants would you recommend for newly hatched caterpillars that would also be suitable for rearing them throughout their entire development?
I’m in Switzerland, where there aren’t many evergreen plants available. However, I’ve read about, or been advised to try, Rubus, Photinia, Pyracantha, Ligustrum and possibly even Prunus laurocerasus. I’ve also read that some people have successfully reared them on ivy.
I’ve also read that feeding refusals are quite common, particularly with Prunus laurocerasus, although this may depend on the variety.
So, I’m a bit confused at this point! ![]()
What have your experiences been? In particular, which plants have you used, and have you encountered any feeding refusals, mortality, or other issues?
Many thanks in advance!
