The best food plant choice in deep autumn is Salix babilonica that keeps leaves sometimes up to December.
My artificial diet works successfully for Smerinthus ocellatus if add 15% of dry Salix leaves, so almost for sure will work for Smerinthus caecus.

Yes, Phellodendron. I am sure they will take Quercus, Prunus padus, Salix and Ptilea

Phylodendron

As far as I know from my personal experience if larva has bacterial or viral infection before pupating it leads to such problem.
-
Concerning Daphnis I strongly recommend to keep all separate whole cycle or at least till L5.
-
Look at my method))

You may easily rear them on my artificial diet.

I using this indoor conditions.

Hi Flavio!
I join to Rudi that Daphnis nerii sometimes ignore honey solution, so better is sugar or fructose.
To stimulate pairing in Daphnis you must place near cage small red or yellowish 12V diode. Such lightning is very likely for pairing, self-fed and oviposition.
Best regards,

For the first time ready product is stongly recommended. Trust me! In addition just diet is not enough for succes. You must know how to offer it to larvae. If you just drop small creatures on diet, you will fail.

I am sorry, but formula is commercial secret. In addition, almost for sure you will never get all components. You may order diet in me with full instructions.

I don't buy!))) I am produce it and sell))))

Hallo Lennard,
ArndIt is not true!!! Our diet works perfect for Daphnis nerii. Development time from eggs hatching till pupating is 12 days only! For me one pupa owncost is only 0.25 USD. So you have time and place economy!!! I sell artificial diet for Daphnis nerii at price 55 Euro per one kg including postage. One kg is enough to rear about 150 Daphnis nerii larvae.

You can be sure, because I had reared over 15 broods of this species in captivity. Also I have the best experience with Actias chapae - I am only who proceed until moths with this species!

Hello!
Pupa hibernates at temperatures around +3 C. Cocoon in the winter should not be much wetter, but must be wetter in the spring and especially in April when just before hatching.

Pupae of dubernardi usually don't hibernate at all and I don't recommend anybody to do this, if he does not want to lose livestock. Also I don't believe that cocoons survive under -20C! In my personal test they resist something around -8-10C below zero and die, if frost is stronger! Pupae must be in wet conditions all the time, if you don't want lose livestock. The main conditions initiating diapause in this species are light and humidity, but not temperature like ArGeNtUm wrote! He lost his livestock very quickly as I know.
If you have any questions concerning Actias dubernardi, you can contact me.

It is not Galium species. This is Asperula genus from Rubiaceae family. It looks like Asperula odorata.
