Ja, das stimmt, er ist moos, aber nicht viel.
In ein grosse wald kann man genau finden, aber hier ist es nich zuviel.

Ich kaufe meiner moos bei florist.

Wie haltest du deiner box warm?

Was ich mir wunder ist ob die Moos die ich kaufe kan im boxen von ca. 1 Kilo, ob sie gesprüht sind mit gift..
Ich kann nicht einfach moos bekommen aus das wild, es lebt nicht zoviel hier..

Aber wenn sie es sonst seht, Die Raupen werden nicht mehr vressen.. So können sie ach keinen gift vressen..

Was meinen sie von dies?

No, they don't the larva have this as their natural hostplant, if they could not in in the 1st instar, the specie wouldn't live on this plants!

As you probably know, male moths often find their partners by following the singn of a pheromone, they find it by some kind of radar in their antennae, thats why the antennae are often so big.
Female's don't need to attract pheronomes, so they don't need such big antennae.

But, this way is not always the easyest, Some species the female's have also big antennae, and when you don't see a male of the specie, you can think it's a male because she had antennae.

Better is to look at the 'tail' of the body, the male will have 2 flaps, with in there a little thingy, this is the penis( if i am right ).
The female also has this 2 things, but lots smaller, and when you hold a moth strongly the female will point out the ovipositor.

If a moth starts laying eggs, take a look at the sexual parts, so you'll know what is a female next time.
Moths wo start mating a female, are males ofcourse, also take a look at them, at that way i learned it, and once you know it.. it's easy!

Last year i used Pinus Strobus, worked fine.
How do you guys keep the Humidity so good? If i spray some toilet paper which i put in, and want ventilation, it just dries in 2 or 3 hours.
What do your L5 caterpillar cage look like?

Does it works for Actias luna, when you use liquidambar in the ingredients, and than keep that for the winter?

My overwintering pupae are not overwintering:(
They were at 6 degrees, and 3 hatched, the rest seems not to hatch yet, lets hope.
For now, i have a couple in a cage, meybe i will have a mating tonight, the female is 3 days old.

Now, please let us know how big the caterpillars get, because a foodplant doensn't have to be good because it's eaten.
It can also be so that a new foodplant "tastes" nice for the larva but hasn't got the right vitamins and other important things.

But anyways, thanks for your awnser.. I have a good 31 pupae of a luna here, but they overwinter.

In my terrarium, i have 2 males, and one female dryas julia..
The female is 2 daws old, and the males 4-5 days.
When the males try to mate with the female, the female sticks up her body, and flies off. She hasn't mate yet, because she is not laying eggs on the passiflora inside. What do i have to do to get them mating?

I have a Cage of 0,8m x 1,0 m, and how do i feed them?

Hey, ive got a hint for next year.
When spring cut off the 1 year old sticks from an oak tree, when he will grow new stick will come.
These fresh sticks drop their leaves like 2-3 weeks later!

Im kuhlschrank überwinteren am 2-5 grad.
