Actias luna Angebot: Winterzucht...

They could eat Eucalyptus, in California I know they eat this plant.

That would be a great plant, does rhodondendron not work?

It works with Actias selene, anyway this year I'm going to try with Eucalyptus and Rhodondendron too and I will tell you.

Today some eggs hatched and I've put 4 little larvae into 2 petri dishes, 2 each.
In a petri dish I've put Eucalyptus gunnii, in the other Rhododendron.

They accept Eucalyptus. Both of them eat it and so it can be used for winter breeding of Actias luna.

DO NOT FEED ACTIAS LUNA WITH RHODODENDRON:
larvae, after being fed on this plant, died.

Thanks!

Now, please let us know how big the caterpillars get, because a foodplant doensn't have to be good because it's eaten.
It can also be so that a new foodplant "tastes" nice for the larva but hasn't got the right vitamins and other important things.

But anyways, thanks for your awnser.. I have a good 31 pupae of a luna here, but they overwinter.
regards, rob.

They're growing and, you're right, it's better to give them Juglans or Betula, they grow really fast with these foodplants.
Anyway, I've some overwintering cocoons too, so if this doesn't work, I'll breed them again next year

My overwintering pupae are not overwintering:(
They were at 6 degrees, and 3 hatched, the rest seems not to hatch yet, lets hope.
For now, i have a couple in a cage, meybe i will have a mating tonight, the female is 3 days old.

regards

I'm keeping over 20 lunas brown cocoons in a fridge (5-6°C) and nothing hatched.
Some of the rest of cocoons (but white) hatched, but the others still aren't hatched yet since 1 month.

My tiny larvae grew but now I haven't enough eucalyptus foliage for breeding them.

I have loads of eucalyptus...
If you'd like i will take care of them? just pm me..
