Keeping plants at home for caterpillars?

I plan to get samia ricini some day, but we have long winters up here where I live, however, I can order Ligustrum to keep at home. Is this possible, how many plants would I need and how much does the average caterpillar consume?

    Thanks in advance!

I do not know if you can obtain Prunus laureocerasus at your place. It is an even more easy plant to keep inside, with large fleshy leaves and ricini does very well on it, just as H. cecropia, gloverii and N. kruckii.
I keep them in my garden all year ( they are wintergreen) and get one inside when I need it.
