Fächer Ahorn/ Japanischer Ahorn/ Acer Palmatum

    Guten Mittag!

I've wondered about red leaf trees, like the ornamental red leaf maples, we've got a couple at home and I've never noticed

any larva on them over the years. I don't think caterpillars consume leaves without chlorophyll. Now, if you mean

leaves colored by the season, I'd say definitely not.

Liquidambar, aka sweetgum, is eaten by dozens, if not hundreds of species.

Nah I just wondered if there is any species that likes acer palmatum. Since I have limited options of food in my backyard and in the near by forest i'm looking for species that i can breed without any problems. So that's why I asked haha

Perhaps you need a copy of Stephen Stone's "Food Plants of World Saturniidae" printed in 1991 by The Lepidopterists'

Society it details food plants for Saturniidae, by species, as well as particular plant species and which moths feed on them.

While arguably outdated and not fully encompassing, it's another tool in my library.

    Oh this sounds perfect!

Thank you very much this is a HUGE help since I am not that common yet in the world of plants, with the exception for the ones I grow vegetables on :face_with_tongue:
