What's this?

Hi Tea

when requesting identification Insects there is a couple of basic Information needed.

When was it caught ? exact Date
Where was it caught ? Palaearctic / Holarctic / neotropical ...

Without that data an exact determination cannot be done.
from Habit it looks like a member of genus sphinx (similarity to palearctic Sphinx pinastri)

Hi Tea.

I gues it is Ceratomia undulosa male, because your are from the USA and so I think you would asking for an american specis. And the moth looks on the forewings like undulosa, with the outstanding white discal spot and some other markings.
At the eastern part of North America undulosa is one of the most commonly sphingids you could find.

If this is not an american specis, my determination is wrong.

But for the next determinations please give us all the informations like Ralf wrote. It is much easier for us.

Regards.
