I've never personally reared them, but books tell me that Quercus, Magnolia, Fagus, and Persea work. I'd try Quercus ssp. first.

Hi Teá,
I've the same Book, but it's wrong, they don't eat it ![]()
I haven't reared them either, but recorded hostplants are:
Cinnamomum obtusifolium
Laurus obtusifolia
Litsea citrata
Litsea polyantha
Litsea salicifolia
Machilus bombycina
Machilus odoratissima
Magnolia sphenocarpa
Michelia
Persea
Pyrus malus
Quercus
Sarcostemma brevistigma
Symplocos grandiflora
Tetranthera diglottica
Tetranthera glauca
Tetranthera macrophylla
Tetranthera monopetala
Tetranthera polyantha
Hi Ryan,
I got that List also from Bill Oehlke's site, but querqus is not accepted, and pyrus malus doesn't exict! Its pyrus, or malus, but both not accepted. Also the European Magnolia not. Other treee's mentioned are not for sale here.
Kind regards,
Marc
Have you tried Malus hillieri?
regards
Arnd
Have you tried Privet? And it's odd that they refused Quercus.. my friend reared some long ago on Q. Pauliskas (Pin Oak) and they did fine...
Cinnamomum, Laurus, Litsea, Carpinus, Persea, Magnolia, Michelia, Quercus, Sarcostemma and Cinnamomum, Laurus, Litsea, Carpinus, Persea, Magnolia, Michelia, Quercus, Sarcostemma and Symplocos..
they grow very hard on symplocos
