For all my experience with Saturniidae, sometimes some females hatched from pupae, spread their wings well, but they were fruitless. I dissected these females (cut) and saw that in the abdomen, no eggs. 
Such a paradox I have seen these types: Actias selene, Antheraea yammamai, Antheraea mylitta, Argema mittrei.
I'm wondering what could be the cause of barren females?
Is it possible infertility of males?
I will be glad to any of your comments.

it's very interesting. Usually females have their abdomen full of eggs, when they leave pupae. But no egg present?
Maybe a hermaphrodite? A genetical defect (attribute: no development of ovum)?
I don't know. However, it is curious ?(.

Sometimes it can become due to poor nutrition quality of foodplant used for breeding. Just now I have one of my dubernardi females the same as You described - abdomen without eggs - only 1 (!) inside. I used not good food - Picea pungens - and caterpillars needed about 2 months for full development. Now I am using for fresh generation qualitz Pinus nigra and thez grow like from water 
But it is only my theory, that hungry body use nutriens first for body development and then for genitals development.
