S. Pyri pupae not hatching

Yes, they are known to be able to lay over for quite many years (maybe for decennies...?). The species can easily survive this way, as it inhabits some areas where the weather is very instable.

Sure and it's boring ! When the winter is too warm, most of them don't hatch. So they need cold temperatures during the diapause.
