Hello Elfin, all the guys above me wanted to give you an answer but they could not understand some English words. These problems should be fixed now and you may get an answer for them. I cannot answer your questions as I don't know much about silk moths or silk production.

Thanks for the link to leo, but I already knew this side. It didn't give any translation for the word reelable. So how ever: if you want to breed silk producing moth, it is a question if you want to make it business or just for fun. Fact is, the length of the fiber in the wild moth species is to short for silk in a good quality (so called filament silk, in German "Haspelseide"). You only get low quality silk, like the so called bourette silk. Another problem is the partely coloured silk of the wild silk moths what makes it impossible to dye in light coloures. For the flament silk you need Bombyx mori, because its caterpillar produces a cocoon with long filaments, which can be the length up to 10.000 m.

But at least every kind of silk is reelable. You need to boil the cocoon (I don't know for how long time) to dissolve the glue between the filaments, take the end of the filament and just reelable it. In every species but Bombyx mori you have to find the end again and again and again....
