Hello Henk,
to spread butterflies you need fresh or moisted butterflies.
You absolutely cannot spread dried butterflies (ans even other dried insects or arthropodes)!!!
There are some possibilities to get them soft again.
One is, to give them in a closed container with wet kitchen towels and let them get soft in two days.
Then you can spread them easily.
Regards
Arnd
Hello Henk.
Here on ACTIAS is no description in English, but there at the homepage of Bruce Walsh, Arizona, he describe how to relax moth.
http://nitro.biosci.arizona.edu/zEEB/butterflies/relax.html
That´s one way to do that.
You could also work without the peat and only with water and foam.
But then give a little bit cleaning agent for windows to the water. It´s against fungicides.
and there are many other options to do that. And everybody thinks, that it own is the best one.
Best regards.
Rudi
Ok, thank you very much!!
is it possible to just put them in the freezer for a while?? I noticed that the specimens from my freezer where good to spread. I had a dry butterfly which went to shit when I tried to spread it too.
I will try to mount them tomorow hopefully they regained some moisture
